The Riddle – Nik Kershaw – Musica in Classe 29/05/12

Musica in Classe – Tuesday 29th May 2012 – 2130 Italian time (12.30 SL time) – Italian Mood

Thanks to Wolf aka Jos Bookmite for suggesting this beautiful beautiful beautiful acoustic version of Nik Kershaw’s ‘The Riddle’. Here is the YouTube upload:

and you can order the CD from this site.

Here’s Gigi d’Agostino’s cover version: (amazing the way the walking goes absolutely in time!)

After listening to the song, I pronounce the words, the ‘class’ repeats them, then I sing the song along with any chords I can manage, then we sing together.
Below you can see the words which, according to Wikipeda, deliberately make no sense….. but I am sure that this will not deter our wonderful resident translator, Loris Talon, from doing a wonderful job!

I hope to see you there!

WORDS ONLY
I’ve got two strong arms
blessings of Babylon
with time to carry on
and try
for sins and false alarms
so to America the brave
wise men save

near a tree by a river
there’s a hole in the ground
where an old man of Arran
goes around and around
and his mind is a beacon
in the veil of the night
for a strange kind of fashion
there’s a wrong and a right
but he’ll never, never fight over you

I’ve got plans for us
nights in the scullery
and days instead of me
I only know what to discuss
oh for anything but light
wise men fighting over you

it’s not me you see
pieces of valentine
with just a song of mine
to keep from burning history
seasons of gasoline and gold
wise men fold

near a tree by a river
there’s a hole in the ground
where an old man of Arran goes around and around
and his mind is a beacon
in the veil of the night
for a strange kind of fashion
there’s a wrong and a right
but he’ll never, never fight over you

I’ve got time to kill
sly looks in corridors
without a plan of yours
a blackbird sings on bluebird hill
thanks to the calling of the wild
wise men’s child

near a tree by a river
there’s a hole in the ground
where an old man of Arran
goes around and around
and his mind is a beacon
in the veil of the night
for a strange kind of fashion
there’s a wrong and a right
but he’ll never, never fight over (you)

near a tree by a river there’s a hole in the ground
where an old man of Arran goes around and around
and his mind is a beacon in the veil of the night
for a strange kind of fashion there’s a wrong and a right
but he’ll never, never fight over you
no he’ll never, never fight over you
