Gimme some lovin’ – Blues Brothers – Musica in Classe 12th June 2012

It will be interesting to see how we can all tackle ‘Gimme some lovin’ à la Blues Brothers or Spencer Davis Group next week.  It does not seem to lend itself to a gentle acoustic guitar rendering where I can simply miss out the notes I can’t play…! But we will be able to make it realistic by dressing up appropriately, getting out our drumkits and electric instruments and chanting ‘da da da da daaaa (Boom) da da da da daaaa (Boom) ‘ repeatedly, while beating any nearby furniture in time with the beat.

Here’s a video of the Blues Brothers’ Version:

Here’s the Spencer Davis Group’s version

The words are different in the versions above, and different from the sheet music I downloaded.  I suggest we go with the words from the Blues Brothers’ version.  Here they are:

GIMME SOME LOVIN’
Spencer Davis, Steve Windwood and Muff Winwood

E A/E E A/E
Well, my temperature’s rising and my feet on the floor
E A/E E A/E
Twenty people rockin’ and they wanna go more
E A/E E A/E
Let me in baby, I don’t know what you’ve got
E A/E E A/E
But you’d better take it easy, this place is hot

CHORUS
E G A C
So glad we made it, so glad we made it
E A/E E A/E E
You gotta gimme some lovin’, gimme some lovin’,
A/E E
Gimme some lovin’, every day

Well I feel so good everything is sounding hot
Better take it easy cause the place is on fire
Been a hard day, and I don’t know what to do
Wait a minute baby it could happen to you

Well I feel so good, everybody’s gettin’ high
Better take it easy cause the place is on fire
Been a hard day, nothin’ went too good,
Now I’m gonna relax, honey, everybody should

Summertime – Gershwin – Musica in Classe 5th June 2012

Marjorie has chosen ‘Summertime’ for our next Musica in Classe session on Tuesday.  Don’t tell her, but I’m going to ask her to perform it as a solo. I’ve heard her sing it ‘for real’ and she is good!!  Here is a link to the video, and the words we will pronounce.

Summertime,
And the livin’ is easy
Fish are jumpin’
And the cotton is high

Your daddy’s rich
And your mamma’s good lookin’
So hush little baby
Don’t you cry

One of these mornings
You’re going to rise up singing
Then you’ll spread your wings
And you’ll take to the sky

But till that morning
There’s a’nothing can harm you
With daddy and mamma standing by

Summertime,
And the livin’ is easy
Fish are jumpin’
And the cotton is high

Your daddy’s rich
And your mamma’s good lookin’
So hush little baby
Don’t you cry
